High CPU usage and MySQL connection ERROR

    I have been using wordpress for my blog since march 2011.

    Recently i started having issues with high memory usage(99%) and also high CPU usuage(100%).

    I have cleaned my wp_options
    I had 18,000 tags, now cleaned to 0

    but there is one thing, i have around 45,000 photos on my nextgen gallery and i cannot afford to delete the photos. I wonder if that is the reason i am having high cpu usage.

    When i try to connect i get

    WordPress database error: [MySQL server has gone away]

    I have 1000 unique visitors and 10,000 page views on an average every day.

    I am on a hostgator VPS with 1.98ghz CPU 1300mb ram.

    Please help me solve this issue.
