High Traffic WP Blogs

  • Hi All,

    We’re running a number of high traffic single-user WP blogs under multiple domains on the same server. Most of the WP installs are running WP 2.2 on a DV Extreme server with MT and using WP-Cache. Looking to crank out more speed as we will soon be adding additional blogs to our server and was wondering if anyone has tried using one of the open source PHP accelerator systems like eaccelerator? Our MySQL server (runs on same box) is pretty tuned and so is Apache. I know a few options is to move MySQL to its own server, but I’d like to get things really tuned on the server and was thinking a PHP accelerator/cache system would be the next step.

    Any links or if you have any experience (good or bad), I’d like to hear them.

    By the way, our server has 1GB of Ram and we currently push about 2.5 million page views a month.

  • Bump. I am wondering the same thing. Does it make and does eAccelerator play nice with WP-Cache or WP-Supercache?

    I recommend eaccelerator with WP Super Cache.

    I find that eaccelerator works well and shaves some seconds off of page generation. At one time I was running my WP installation on a PII running at 450 Mhz and 256 MB of RAM. The eaccelerator was a real shot in the arm :).

    Donncha’s WP Super Cache is just plain “why didn’t anyone do this before…?” and AFAIK works fine with eaccelerator.

    With Super Cache activated, the initial creation of the static page is same as always speed wise. But once that page is created, using a simple benchmarking tool such as ab2 (comes with Apache 2.x) shows how much time is saved by not engaging PHP and loading the static HTML page out of the cache.

    One question, when you used eAccelerator did you just install it or did you also need to use the NeoSmart WP eAccelerator plugin to the see the benifits of it.

    I just installed eAccelerator and made sure the eaccellerator.ini file was parsed using phpinfo.

    I also created the directory and pointed it to that instead of the default /tmp/eaccelerator.

    I tried the NeoSmart WP software but did not see any improvement. Odds are I was missing something in my config.
