    Hi,

i have a quick question. In the track profile it shows the heights but what are they related to? GPS height? the height difference from starting point to finish point?

I have three tracks here and I just noticed that the height calling is not consistent with anything.

The Red trail has the highest starting point in relation to height above sea level. Its also weird that it shows 89 and drops immediately at the next step to 4m. Thats free-falling ??
Side Topic. Is there a way to edit this point in waymarking or can I just upload the edited gpx file again without losing the markers along the trail?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Ooops, typo in the title. Can a mod correct it please? It’s supposed to be height.

    Hi @snake-plissken,

Good question! I had to do some research ??

The GPX, KML and GeoJSON formats all seem to use the same standard: meters from sea-level (“sea-level” as defined by the World Geodetic System 1984 (WGS84)).

That seems to be the “standard” at least, though it would not surprise me if there is a wide range of formats being used.

It is also worth noting that while tracking on a device in the wild, the accuracy of altitude data is down to the device, which varies widely. I personally use GAIA GPS for iPhone and get weird results (like “-99999999m above sea-level”) often.

This is a free tool for elevation lookups that I have had success with. CalTopo is also an excellent editor.

Is there a way to edit this point in waymarking or can I just upload the edited gpx file again without losing the markers along the trail?

There is no way to edit elevation through the Editor currently. Definitely back-up first, but you can delete the Line using the Editor and then re-add a new Line from file. However any Markers (i.e. GPX Waypoints) contained in the file will also be re-added, so make sure the file just contains a route/track.

I hope that helps. Please do let me know if you need anything further, or if you think you have spotted an issue with Waymark!

    Cheers,

    Joe

    Hey,

    thanks for your reply.

Its weird. I have to check with the app I am using to record my track. It started at 0 and brought me to -81 m below sea level but I was at least 40 above. Weird. However other tracks the same day and close by seem more reasonable in regarding to the elevation reading.

Thanks for clarifying. Your app is just the best for showing the tracks. Keep it up.

    Yes that doesn’t sound right.

I’ll mark this topic as resolved, but please do let me know if you need anything further.

    Cheers,

    Joe
