Hiring WP Custom Help – CAN I protect my content?

I know enough about WordPress theme customization to know I should hire someone else to do it. I can make minor mods but I don’t yet have a good, foundational understanding in spite of many years in programming before 2000.

I have a WP blog with lots of content, years’ worth.

I’d like to hire someone on the Web, perhaps through eLance, to modify it for me.

Is it possible to protect the existing content while creating an account to allow a WP coder to modify the theme as needed? It’s all about politics and religion… a few words changed here and there and it would make problems for me.

I’m REALLY not paranoid. It’s not that I don’t trust others, I just won’t know them.

Any direction on this would be appreciated!
