Hi Im creating an historic website with post and stories from the past – going back to the sixties.

I am dating my posts to the actual year. So for example I have a post from 1974 and I publish it as this date.

This is useful for ordering my content but how would this affect my SEO cause these posts seem really old?

What work around could I use, would it be better to use custom fileds as the historic date and publish the posts to the current date?

I fear for messing with seo with the method im using currently.

  • Whatever date you may choose for publishing, search engines will consider only your actual date of publishing. So, SEO will be as for any other site and your ranking, SERP, indexing, etc. will depend on your content and several other factors of SE algorithms.

Thanks Krishna, will they penalise for the fact that I am back dating posts by so many years

I understand they can see when it was actually posted (not just what I set it as) but I just want to make sure I’m not penalising the site.

would it be better to use custom fileds as the historic date and publish the posts to the current date?

    Yes.
