    Hi there,

I keep hitting YouTube and I’m not quite sure why. Previously used a different plugin, which didn’t do everything I needed, but it didn’t hit the quota either.

Cache is set to 2 days, and the shortcode used is below. The shortcode is placed inside a WPBakery row.

    [fts_youtube vid_count=6 large_vid=yes large_vid_title=no large_vid_description=no thumbs_play_in_iframe=yes vids_in_row=3 omit_first_thumbnail=no space_between_videos=8px force_columns=no maxres_thumbnail_images=no thumbs_wrap_color=#fff channel_id=[my_channel_id]]

Is there anything else I could do to avoid hitting the quota? The site doesn’t get that many visits per day, so I doubt it’s because of that.

    Thanks

    Hi @aintnobody,

Thanks for contacting us, we are happy to help.

Google/YouTube has changed some things on their end, especially since the pandemic started, they have throttled some things on their end. It is better to manually generate an API Key rather than clicking the banner/button to gain an access token/key. That will help avoid some call rate limits. It does take a little work, but will return much better results in the long run.

You can generate an API Key manually by clicking the API Key box and entering in your API Key. You can generate an API Key by clicking the ‘Button Not Working?’ link next to the white Access Token box or by clicking this link

    Hey slickchris,

I created the API key in the console as I had to do it for another plugin I tried (that plugin has been deleted since so it’s not using the quota). I also have a separate API key one on my staging site with this plugin, but it looks like it’s reaching quota as well.

I found this thread https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/youtube-feed-stopped-displaying/ which mentions Gutenberg classic block, but the page I have doesn’t have anything that is being updated with the cron.

However, just dawned on me that perhaps Cloudflare is creating too many calls. Is that a possibility? I’ll investigate and report back.

    Hi @aintnobody,

One of the caveats with YouTube’s call rate limit, is that once you have hit it, YouTube does not “reset/clear” it for 24 hours.

    Hi @slickchris

I’ve all but disabled Cloudflare, and unfortunately, I don’t think that’s what’s causing the issues, as the site is still exceeding quota limits.

Is it possible that it’s not compatible with WPBakery or perhaps the caching plugins? I’ve checked the cron events and can’t see any that might be causing this, but in the space of an hour, there were 2000 queries to YouTube API already so there must be something wrong somewhere.

    Thanks

    Hi @aintnobody,

If you can send us your most recent shortcode (with channel ID) to support@ slickremix.com we can take a closer look. Thank you.
