• I’d always found this plugin a little slow and unresponsive in the manager for creating the sidebars but a much bigger problem has led to this one star rating.

Since the latest update it has been hogging all the CPU resources on my server. This caused the site to stop loading pages most of the time, meaning I couldn’t even log in and delete the plugin once I’d worked out that was the problem (or rather, once my hosting company told me this). I had to log in via FTP and just brute force delete the damned thing.

Clearly not everyone has this problem, but it can happen, there is nothing particularly unique about my site (structurally) nor in the way I was using the plugin. So use this plugin if you wish, but if you notice your site loading really sluggishly or failing to load at all due to server CPU and memory being eaten up by some mysterious force like in Star Wars, then this might be the culprit.

  • Hello ts007,

Sorry you had a poor experience with Custom Sidebars. We’re working on improving the performance.
Can you share with us what type of server you are using?

And could you tell how many sidebars did you have setup?

    kind regards,
    Kasia

I had 6 or 7 sidebars set up.

When you say ‘what type of server’ what exactly do you mean?
