• Alright, so as a form plugin, this might be suitable. But in the light version, there are some bad business practices that need to be addressed. I tried using with a clients project where the destination email was a bit complicated. This plugin recommends SMTP setup which for some cases may be needed but most of those services require additional payment which is too much for a basic contact form system.
That is not really the issue, though it did cause some headaches in itself.

My issue stems from the fact that this plugin will send form entries to some unknown cloud service provider as “backup” instead of a database entry as one would expect to be accessed in the event email delivery fails.

So not only is potentially sensitive data being sent to an unknown storage system, they require purchasing of the pro version in order to see those entries. They are essentially holding data hostage if you cannot get the email delivery to work. If you want an alternative with better pro options and the option to view entries from the WordPress Admin, check out Formidable forms, or probably any of the other available options. (haven’t tested them all)

  • Hi @jcc5018,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and concerns about WPForms. We always value our user’s feedback as it allows us to improve our services and user experience.

First, I’d like to clarify that WPForms does suggest an SMTP setup to ensure reliable email delivery. However, it’s worth noting that many email delivery services (like SendLayer, Sendinblue, etc) have free plans, which are more than sufficient for a basic contact form.

Currently, no entries are stored for backup in the free version of WPForms unless you have the Lite Connect feature enabled (more details on that?here). The main reason entries are not stored in WPForms Lite is due to WordPress guidelines. We’re not allowed to lock entries behind a paid license level which is why we created Lite Connect to allow users to opt into the Lite Connect feature. This allows users to recover the entries that were made from the time Lite Connect is enabled. Regarding your security concern (about the entry backups), I guarantee security is one of our highest priorities. If you want to know more about this, you can check the following guide.

While the PRO version does indeed offer additional features and conveniences, we aim to make the Lite version as functional as possible without compromising the core functionalities. We’re sorry if our messaging led to any misunderstanding. We’re continuously working on improving the clarity and accuracy of our information.

And if you’d like more help with using WPForms Lite and your email delivery issue, please feel welcome to post in our WPForms Lite support forum.

    Thanks!
