Home Page and Current Menu Item

I see from various searches that this is an issue for many people; the home page not being assigned the current-menu-item class. It is for me too, although it IS working on my localhost version, which is a mirror of my live site, including the .htaccess file. I am using a custom menu

I have tried the full url and the trailing slash but without luck. Has there been a solution found yet?
