• I have spent a considerable amount of time trying to quell this problem prior to posting here. I have my fingers crossed, hoping someone can help.

I am using the latest version of WP, but this happened prior to the upgrade.

One day I went to my site – https://www.allknowingforce.com – and the home page got a 404 error. It loaded for a second and then disappeared. However, when I entered in the site like https://www.allknowingforce.com/wonderful, it works. Wonderful is the name of the directory in which WP is stored.

I am unable to edit via General Options in the dashboard, because I added two lines to wp-config file, so the ability to change it there is grayed out.

This is driving me nuts and I need all the help I can get. Please let me know if you need anything from me. I will respond immediately. Thank you.

  • its usually in the root directory, if not find in the “wonderful” directory, if still you cant see then you will need to go via cpanel/hosting panel > file manager there you will see the file

I am not sure of the difference between a root directory and a sub-directory. However, I assume a sub-directory would be, in this case, Wonderful. So, yes, the site files are located in Wonderful.

As far as the screen shot goes, I don’t know how to post it here. I did save it to my desktop, though.

I cannot find the htaccess file anywhere.

Thank you for troubleshooting this with me. I look forward to your reply.

Its looking all ok for me now… if you see the site… it looks fine now do check and let me know…

I just viewed the site in FF and it was perfect.

I then viewed it in IE 8 and the same problem persists – when I type in the URL, it gets a 404 error.

However, when I type allknowingforce.com/wonderful it works BUT now all the banners and missing pictures are there!

So, the only issue is I can’t get it the URL to work in IE!

Do you get it to work in IE?

Yes, I see in IE the error 404 comes up but when I type https://www.allknowingforce.com/wonderful/ it shows perfect with banners and pictures. 404 shows only when https://www.allknowingforce.com/ is typed. By any chance, you have set Static Page under Reading under Settings?

The static page option is NOT checked.

“Your latest posts” is what is checked.

the only option I could check is that you provide a screenshot of the hosting folders, the htaccess, and config on the all https://www.allknowingforce.com/ and https://www.allknowingforce.com/wonderful/

All of the contents of the site are in the Wonderful sub-directory. The only thing in the AllKnowingForce folder are two index files.

    Does this help?

well if you could provide a screenshot that would be best…

you could take a screenshot and then upload to your server and then post me the link here (for all hosting folders, the htaccess, and config on the all https://www.allknowingforce.com/ and https://www.allknowingforce.com/wonderful/ )

Hi. I’m uncertain if I’m violating any rules by asking this question, but is there any way we can chat in real-time about this (such as via an instant message program)?

I do realize these forums are a way of helping people with their issues, so I’d gladly post a recap for others to read.

Please let me know. I’d appreciate it. And, I do appreciate everything you’ve done so far.

    I await your reply.

Hi. I have not heard from anyone so let me know exactly what is needed and I will post it. I just don’t want to make all that info public in case it gets into the wrong hands.

    (@kalaka-district)

    Are you still there?

Please reply. I appreciate all your help and I’m sure this is one tweak away from being resolved.

I do have all the info. I can provide it here. I just hope someone can’t hack my site from it.

    Is this acceptable?

Hi, sorry was away. Can you send me email / name via my contact form on my site? I will send mail on how we can chat and sort this out.

Hi. I’m assuming your site is cmsnext.com. Therefore, I just went there and sent you my contact info. Awaiting your reply.

Thank you for getting back to me!
