Looks like the SEO analysis is correct; there’s no meta description on your homepage, nor on any other pages that I looked at.

Did you by any chance use the old version of the plugin on your website? It’s possible you cleared out the description format there.

Please go to General Settings > Advanced and see if you see a setting called “Description Format”. That setting will only be there if you updated from the old version. If you see that setting, check whether the description format isn’t blank. If it is, try adding the smart tag #description.

Let me know how that goes.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me,

There are meta descriptions on all 373 posts on my website and have been ever since I started this site 3 years ago, so you’re telling me since the update that AIOSEO cant see them for some reason? And its been like that for the past 3months WTH?

Yes I did update from the old version

Also I went to general settings as you said and could not see a setting called Description for format

@jake79 looks like it’s only happening on your homepage; I was mistaken. Would you mind reaching out to us here – https://aioseo.com/contact/. You can click the “Complete a Form” button and reference the URL of this thread. Our support team will be happy to troubleshoot your homepage for you.

Their update has done this to a lot of people’s sites. Surprised you didn’t get the “that’s not supposed to happen answer”.

Unfortunately, it seems AIOSEO’s updates are not tested well or thought out well before release, destroying people’s sites and becoming an SEO destroyer rather than helper.

    Hey @jake79,

As I mentioned earlier, the developers of the Extra theme have significantly altered the way the homepage works in WordPress (you can see this for yourself under Settings > Reading), which breaks our plugin and most likely many others as well. It’s important to note that the issue also occurs with older versions of our plugin, so it didn’t break because of an update we did.

We’ve nevertheless opened a ticket on our end so we can examine the issue further and see whether we can support this. In the meanwhile, it looks like you can set the homepage title and description directly inside the Extra theme options – there should be an SEO section where you can control these.

I updated a few sites prior to the last update and descriptions were pulled in no problem…

Going from Version 3.7.1 to Version 4.1.0.2 so far Home Description is replaced with “#description” once finished.

@stevenb1966 can you contact us here – https://aioseo.com/contact/. You can click the “Complete a Form” button on that page. Our team will be happy to take a look.

@arnaudbroes , are you able to provide a technical explanation for this issue to benefit the greater public? If there is a fix, please let us know. I’m seeing the same issue after updating from 3.7.1 to 4.1.0.2.

@ilovecake I don’t remember what the issue for each of the above users was, but I do know that we haven’t made any changes to the plugin with regard to this yet, so I believe most issues were caused by theme/plugin conflicts or configuration issues. Please feel free to contact us through the link in my previous comment and we’ll be happy to get this sorted for you.

Im happy to reach out and see what can be fixed. But i can confidently say that there was no config changes and the theme doesnt do anything special in terms of calling any method/api specific to AIOSEO. I started my own thread, in case you want to check it out.
