Hi there, I am using the travel-lite theme. For some reason I am unable to edit the home page, only the sample home page that comes with the theme shows up when i look at my website, even though i have created a home page with my own content. all the other pages are working correctly except the home page. why might this be happening?

    my website is villa-bali.net

  • Hey there,

did you change your homepage setting to the new page you created?

    1. Go to Administration > Settings > Reading panel.
    2. Set Front page displays to a static page
    3. In the drop down menu for Front Page select the page you want
    4. Save changes.

    Please advise,
    Dimitris

    Hi Dimitris,

I already did do all of that but for some reason the problem still persists, can you think of another reason why I am still having this problem?

    Hey there,

do you use any caching plugins? If so, can you try purge all instances or deactivate the plugin to test if this remains?

    Please advise,
    Dimitris

I have cleared my browser cache manually, i do not use any caching plugins

Try re-saving your permalinks and test again.

If this persists, deactivate all of your plugins in case this is a conflict.

I’ll go ahead and try to replicate this in my local end.

i am in my page editor at the moment and i can see that it says the permalink for my home page which is set to my static front page is villa-bali.net, but when i actually am on my home page (not in the editor) the url bar displays https://villa-bali.net/en/home/. could this be the issue? and if so, how do i fix this. I should note that my website is in english and thai, hence the /en/home/ suffix.

    Hey there,

I tried to replicate and resolve this. The issue is due to the /travel-lite/front-page.php file.

In order to surpass that I created a child theme (https://github.com/fovoc/travel-lite-child) where I actually duplicated the page.php template inside the front-page.php file.

Please inform me how that goes,
    Dimitris

thank you, can you please tell me what a child theme is and what i do with it? i clicked on this link (https://github.com/fovoc/travel-lite-child) but i am not sure what to do from here

A child theme is a theme that inherits the functionality and styling of another theme, called the parent theme. Child themes are the recommended way of modifying an existing theme.

    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Child_Themes
This is a very basic functionality of WordPress so please spare a moment (or two) and read the previous link. ??

In short terms, you can use the repo I created (download as ZIP file through Github) and install-activate it as a normal WP theme in order to surpass the front-page template used by parent theme.

    Hope that helps,
    Dimitris

Thank you very much, that seemed to work

I am also struggling to remove the 2 mail buttons in the header next to the search bar and also the bar of white and grey that appears at the bottom of every page above the footer. Could theses 2 problems also be resolved with a child theme?

    Hey there,

I’m glad you made it work! ??

Can you please mark this topic as resolved and create a new one with appropriate title/description?

    Thanks in advance,
    Dimitris
