Home page problems

My homepage has a slider above the contents of the page. I am using “The WP” theme.
The contents on the home page have disappeared! The slider is still there.
I was working on a ‘dummy’ site until I was happy and then I cloned the ‘dummy’ site to the new site. It was then I noticed the problem.
I decided to change the home page to just have the slider and recreate my original homepage in another page but… I cannot change the home page. It reverts to the original home page. Any suggestions?
