Home page shows Recent Post

Did you follow this guide for your home page?

I did follow that guide in creating my homepage. However, the guide doesn’t mention that there is a showcase selection in addition to default and sidebar. When I follow the guide as written and select default, the Recent Post disappears. However, my preferred set up is showcase. Can that be done?

I don’t know anything about the showcase option. I would think it should give you some choices of what to “showcase” but I don’t know.
