• I can’t describe what I want to do well with the title. I have a blog, which uses theme Traction. The theme has a sidebar on the right, header and footer. I want my home page to be a different layout. I established a custom page template for that page.

Problem is that the structure did not change. I removed the sidebar, so it is empty, but my main post column still remains the same size. So my blog home page is not centered. How do I extend the content portion of my page so that it fills the area that used to be covered by the sidebar?

Its easy to see what I mean, go here.

If you go to say /blog, you will see that the sidebar is then active- as I want it to be.

I really can’t understand what you trying to explain.

As I understood you want completely different layout on home page. so best option is to change the code index.php as your preference. if you have layout (a jpg file) you want, i can advise you what to do.

What I am aiming at is you go to my blog at https://smartbserver.net

The page that is displayed is my own design page, with elements and structure taken from my theme, but not all of it. I.e. I want to keep the navigation bars, header, footer, but the main body of the page I want free reign with. I would like to have full http/css code access, so that if I want I can change the size and position of existing elements, and add new elements.

On the navigation bar of this custom design page (which might in the end look nothing like the rest of my site), when someone clicks the Blog link, they are then taken to my blog roll, which uses 100% Traction Theme.

Someone on another thread mentioned copy and renaming page.php to front-page.php, applying a custom template, and then using different css, etc.
