Homepage Layout Manager not working

Using the free version – I have a Flex slider on the homepage and I had the Page Content and Latest Blog Posts enabled. Today I added slides to my homepage and somehow the layout changed to Page Title and Page Content enabled and the rest disabled.

When I try to save the changes I get the message:
There was a problem with your action. Please try again or reload the page.

I’ve tried saving twice and reloading the page. Nothing changes the enabled/disabled blocks although I can make changes to other parts of the Theme Options page.

Also – while adding slides I get the same error message but if I save and reload the page, the changes are saved. We use Dreamhost and I have disabled the higher security setting – although this seems to work adding slides it doesn’t make any difference to the Homepage Layout Manager.
