Homepage Menu is not what it is supposed to be

    The website I’m having issues with is https://www.buttonedup.us. I added a page today and called it Game Day but was having issues with getting all of the products to show on the page. I eventually ended up deleting the page and adding a new one called College Game Day and it is working correctly. The problem I have now is that if you are on the Homepage it still shows the old Game Day page with the incorrect content even though that page has been completely deleted from the site. If you go to any other page on the site, it shows the College Game Day page on the menu like it should. Any help is appreciated,

  • Settings -> Reading -> “Front page displays”

    Change this to the new page.

    Hey Shannon, I am actually playing around with that right now just to see what the problem is, but new page “College Game Day” isn’t actually supposed to be the home page. I changed the “Front page displays” to the About page and it still shows as the original homepage…for some reason I cannot get the homepage to update with any changes I make to the content either. I believe that is the root of my problem. Not sure if I should just delete it and start over or what.

    Check your theme files.

    /wp-content/themes/[your-theme]/index.php – This is the default home page

    /wp-content/themes/[your-theme]/page.php – This becomes the default home page if you select Settings -> Reading -> “Front page displays” -> “Front Page”

    /wp-content/themes/[your-theme]/single.php – This becomes the default home page if you select Settings -> Reading -> “Front page displays” -> “Posts Page”

    If you change these and your home page doesn’t change, I’m willing to bet that home page content has been hard-coded into these files…

    To test – try changing themes and see what happens? A normal theme should respond to the changes you are making…

    Thanks again for your help Shannon. I will check it out right now. I deleted the homepage and it still shows so that’s odd. Also, when I’m logged into WordPress, I can see the page just like it should be. It’s when I log out that it reverts back to the old homepage without any updates and the menu still shows the old Game Day page that no longer exists.

    It looks like you are correct and the content has been hard coded because I changed the theme and the homepage stays the same while the rest changed to the 2015 theme. What can I do to get my homepage to actually show the new homepage and not the hard coded one?

    Not sure if it helps, but I tried deactivating all plugins but that didn’t help either.

    Ok, I figured it out, the .htaccess file still had a little code left over from where I deleted the W3 Cache plugin (I hate that plugin, it has caused more trouble than it could ever be worth) and it’s working again. Thanks again for your help Shannon.

    Cache!!! Great for site performance, terrible for site debugging!
