Homepage "Next Page" link not function correctly

  • Fairly new to WordPress.

    Our home page has a list of the latest blog posts, with the Next Page>> link after the last one on the page. Here is where the problem is.

    When the page is set as the static home page, clicking Next Page just reloads the same page and same list of blog entries. It does not advance to the next set of entries even though the URL shows page 2 should be displayed. Then, the Next Page>> link at the bottom of that page is still linked to just page 2 again, instead of page 3.

    If I recreate the exact same page but don’t set it as the home page, it functions correctly.

    Does being defined as the static page home page prevent the link from working? If so, any way to overcome this limitation?
