Hi, in version 6 of this plugin, you wrote that it will “exclude 404 page from XML sitemap generated by Yoast SEO”.

On my very simple site, my homepage is my 404 page, and I don’t want to exclude it from Yoast.

Can you allow a way to toggle this setting — to choose whether the plugin will remove the 404 page from Yoast?

I’m not installing the version 6 update at the moment because I’m afraid of the result!

    Thank you,
    Joe

    Hi Joe,

in my opinion it is not a good idea to use an existing page as 404 error page – and certainly not the homepage. A 404 error page in my opinion should inform the visitor why he is seeing this page and give him some hints what he can find on your website.

Anyway, if you want to set it up that way, it’s nor problem. You already should have deactivated the setting “Send an 404 error if the page is accessed directly by its URL” – otherwise your homepage would result in an 404 error.

If this setting is deactivated the 404 page also is not excluded from sitemap generation. You do not have to be scared, it will work out of the box.

    Regards,
    Peter

Thanks, Peter. This is a one-page site, which is why there’s only a homepage.

    Appreciate the advice!
