• I have tried endlessly to use permalinks on my site hosted by the zeus server. Managed to get it to work by adding index.php before the url name which is still pretty poor. But it now says home_2 and I want it to say home. Have looked for home.php file on server and there is not one.

How do I fix this please?

  • That is because you must have a Home page that is not permanently deleted check if it in thrash if so delete it permanently and change the home_2 in url on top page.

Hey, thank you so much for that. You were right. I deleted the old ones from the trash and renamed new ones and all is working!

You wouldn’t know how to get rid of the index.php from the url would you?

    Want url : sitename.com/interests

    Currently got: sitename.com/index.php/interests

If I remove the index php from custom box on permalinks, pages don’t work at all

what do you have in permalinks as is?

    https://sitename.com/wp/index.php/about/

wp part because is in folder on directory while I set up the site. When complete I will move everything to main web root directory on server.

sitename is example. In mine i have my actual sitename obviously

    Using Namesco and Zeus server

    WordPress 3.0.3

Is there any way you can post your url so we can see.

in Settings General you should have
    https://sitename.com/wp
    as on both urls

    In permalink

    you should have /%postname%/

in Settings General, both boxes have:

    https://sitename.com/wp

In permalink, custom box it has:

    index.php/%postname%/

    Because when I just put:

/%postname%/ it does not work. When you click on the pages it says link is not working

Will ONLY work if I put index.php before the postname. So I’m trying to find a way to get it to hide the index.php in the url

I think there must be a problem in your wp folder do you have any other index file in folder if not then in .htaccess file
    you need add

    DirectoryIndex index.php index.html index.htm
    om first line

then try see if you still need index.php

As I am on zeus server there is no htaccess file. But there is an index file in my themes directory.

I will add this line of code and see what happens.

Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.

Have added that line of code on my template index page and now website will not open up at all. Says HTTP 500 program error with website

Take it out from index file if you using permalinks you have to have a .htaccess file is hidden file.

I don’t have a htaccess file anywhere in my wordpress directory. I do have one on my main website in the root directory, but not one for wordpress.

Go ahead create one if you do not have one in wordpress folder

umm… Zeus is not apache…. so I don’t think it uses a .htaccess

ah, just google zeus wordpress….you’ll find a tonne of stuff like the above
