• I have wp-login form on my site for user login, registration and lost password which redirects to a specific page (forum) after successful logins etc.

I am going to install Akismet to prevent spam.

Would it be a good idea to have a honeypot field and reCaptcha on the form? If so, what would be the best way to implement them – preferably without a plugin.

    Many thanks.

  • Hi Mica,

Why dont you want to use a plugin for this?

Yes both will certainly help, you should even harden your website security one step further with something like WordFence or JetPack to block Malicious signups.

    I hope this helps ??

    Hello Xyno,

It is just that when I looked at some plugins, some users reported they had problems (for example not being able to log into WordPress when they installed reCaptcha).

Which plugins would you recommend for honeypot and reCaptcha? Should they both be on all wp-logins (login, register, lost password?

So, all in all, you think I should have all of the following in place:
    Akismet, honeypot, reCaptcha and WordFence?

    Many thanks for your help!

    You are welcome.

I love WordFence but there is another security plugin available that does all in one with regards to login captchas and honeypot, also a fun plugin to measure security:

I have used it before with WordFence enabled and had no problems.

    Thanks very much.
Does it mean that if I use this plugin I won’t need WordFence?
If I use it, should I use Akismet as well?
And last but not least, is the Captcha the new reCaptcha which would be better?

    Hi Mica.

Nope I think that’s only simple Captcha. You can use WordFence as well, no harm. Use Akismet too!
