Hook to add thumbnails to related posts

Hello,
Simple Tags is one of the oldest plugins I use (duly updated, of course!) and it works greatly!
I’m one of the users who “begged” for the return of the “related posts” feature. During that period, although I kept using Simple Tags, I started using YARPP to provide my related posts links.
Unfortunately, YARPP seems too resource intensive for my new hosting provider and I have to “return to the basics”. Simple Tags “related posts” feature performs brilliantly but AFAIK lacks the thumbnails my readers are used to.
Is there anyway I can “hook” a custom function to Simple Tags to show thumbnails in the “related posts” links?
