horizontal menu across top of page

I have been trying for 2 days to get a horizontal menu across the top of a page in wordpress and can’t seem to get it done.
I use Magazine from Themify and they don’t seem to be able to tell me how to do it. I tried a couple of plugins, one called Mega Menu or something but everytime I tried to create a menu it said it was not activated or associated or something like that. I also followed several google queries to post like “2019 best Menu plugins” only to find that many of the plugins recommend have been removed at authors request.

which brings me to this

Is it really hard to create a horizontal menu in WP. Should I give up and just pay someone. I don’t have much more time to waste on this if it is unlikely I can fix it myself. I like fixing my own stuff, but this is wasteful.

I am hoping someone can recommend a plugin that will work. Unless I maybe just have to pay someone to do it. Two days is too much time to screw around with a horizontal menu with 4 menu items.

Can anyone recommend a plugin?
How hard is this? Is themify just being lazy or do I need real help.
