I was going to submit a plugin I’ve seen hundreds if not more requests for. The plugin took 5 minutes. Your submission process takes nearly an hour, and doesn’t even guarantee acceptance and that I’m not wasting my time. I’d quite frankly be embarrassed of the state of things over there if that was my part of the site to run.

Takes less time to submit a Google Play or iPhone app to the app stores. No wonder the plugin directory is dying off and is full of plugins that don’t work.

It takes less time to submit things to iTunes and Google Play because the submissions to them aren’t scanned by unpaid volunteers.

Everyone here is a volunteer: the support folks, the people who check submitted plugins and themes for malware before they’re published in the directory, and even the developers are volunteers.

yay for the volunteers! And for the plugin authors!

@wired420 Try and put it in the scope of volunteers and size of the platform. The plugin directory is not “dying off” at all but you may misunderstand the size of the job.

There are 33,565 in the repo and every single one of them was originally vetted by that small team of volunteers. They are doing that work on their free time for the benefit of the community.

While it takes you only 5 minutes to generate a small plugin, it goes into a queue with hundreds of other submissions. It really is first come first serve and some of those submissions are thousands of lines of code to review. And that team also fields any and all plugin complaints at the same time.

In that scale and light the work that they do isn’t embarrassing at all. It’s awesome. ??

Like with all volunteer services, by criticising it you should also be willing to pick up a mop and improve it.
