• I’m attempting to install WordPress using the Fantastico option with Host Gator. I keep receiving the following error and I have no idea how to correct this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The installation can not be completed:

    – You chose to install in the main directory of the domain faithandchange.com, but there are conflicting filenames, therefore we can not proceed. Following filenames already exist in the main directory of the domain faithandchange.com (path=”/home2/godivaja/public_html/”).You must manually remove these files before proceeding with auto-installation:
    wp-admin
    wp-content
    wp-includes
    index.php
    license.txt
    readme.html
    wp-activate.php

    wp-comments-post.php
    wp-config.php
    wp-config-sample.php
    wp-cron.php

    wp-load.php

  • Contact your hosts. This is a hosting issue – not a WordPress one.

    Oh ok. Thanks!

You have files in the folder that are getting in the way. If you want it to come up in the Public_HTML folder then you need to clear out all the files in that folder.

You can them to a new folder if it makes you nervous deleting the files.

Then run Fantastico again. It should work. See what’s happening is Fantastico is trying to copy the same files that are already there.

That sais, I think you should consider a regular installation of WordPress. I’m working on an article now that will help with that.

One note about Fantastico installs is that they can cause issues in the future with some plugins or themes. We’ve seen that too many times. That’s why Softaculous or even better a manual installs are much better.
