When I request a different canonical site URL, subdomain.example.com; WordPress redirects to example.com first. From there no further redirection happen.

I’m not sure if this is a question, feature request, or bug report?

I expected the redirection to work. But it may be due to some particularities with that WordPress setup. So I would say, a bug report. ?? If the plugin can not perform the redirection because another redirection is done before it is actually ran, then it is a question, as I do not know the reason.

Ok, but what redirect have you created?

The redirect is an “URL and server” redirection: Source URL: /; Server: text.example.com, target URL: (some external target URL). The site itself has the same TLD (example.com).

Have you used the redirect checker to see what is happening? You’ve not given specifics so I have no insight.

Sorry for not having provided more details, I am still trying and collecting more details about the issue.

So in the Redirection plugin protocol/log the “normal” (path) redirects are listed, but not this particular subdomain redirect. This means that something happens with the request before the Redirection plugin actually has a chance to do something.

The site uses a customized WordPress (Bedrock) and nginx with PHP-FPM (Trellis), so the nginx could catch the request before WordPress or plugins can handle it.

Did you try the redirect checker?

Can you give some specific details? I don’t feel like I know any more than the first message.
