• Hi Mike,

    I am using version 3.1.9.8

My wordpress installation is not on hostgator but the domain specific email related to the domain name is on hostgator.

The email account is able to receive messages sent from virtually any address accept the contact form.

In testing I have defined the custom from address so that the from and return path addresses match and confirmed that we have the correct spf records.

If we cc or bcc the message to a gmail or google hosted apps or domain specific yahoo email account the message is successfully received and in reviewing the message header it gets an spf pass in all cases. However, with hostgator nothing and no bounced messages.

I contacted hostgator and they swear it is a problem with the form and not with their email.

My gut says that hostgator’s mail server is vaporizing the message at the mail server level for some reason.

Have you heard any issues related to hostgator mail receiving contact forms? Any suggested solutions/work arounds?

    Thanks,
    Pat

  • Hi Pat, are you using Version 3.1.9.8? If you are then that is not a very secure version. The latest plugin version is 4.0.23.

If you update to the latest version maybe your issue is resolved.

    Kind regards

    @mbrsolution

I just setup 4.0.23 on a clean install of the latest version of WP. I configured the form in the same manner as the issue reported above and got the same result.

Any further thoughts on how to get hostgator email to accept messages from the form when the website is on different hosting?

    Thanks,
    Pat

Hi Pat have you read the following URL before?

I have read it thoroughly. Still looking for why hostgator denies delivery. Thanks.

Hi Pat, it is very challenging to workout a problem like this one. I suspect that your hostgator account is not allowing your e-mails to go through. The reason why I say this is because of your comment….

If we cc or bcc the message to a gmail or google hosted apps or domain specific yahoo email account the message is successfully received and in reviewing the message header it gets an spf pass in all cases. However, with hostgator nothing and no bounced messages.

I will share that I have a client with hostgator and they have no problem receiving e-mails from this plugin.

Have you checked the log files?

    Regards

I have hostgator and this is what I do:

Edit your form, go to the Basic settings tab.

Set the “Return-path address” setting to a real email address on the SAME domain as your web site. This really is necessary so mail is properly identified as originating from your server. For best results the “Email To” and the “Return-path address” should be separate email addresses on the SAME DOMAIN as your web site (don’t skip this important step!).

Next step, check this setting box:
Enable when web host requires “Mail From” strictly tied to site (don’t skip this important step!).

Now it should be DMARC compliant for users who submit your form with yahoo, aol, comcast emails, or any other provider who now requires DMARC compliance.

If you have other forms in use, do this for each form

The email will appear to be from your site email address, but because the email header “Reply-to” is set as the form user’s email address, you should be able to just hit reply and email back to the real sender. Also you will see the sender address in the message content. So it is still possible to send mail to that if the “Reply-to” is ignored by your email program.

If you still have a problem it could be a problem at your domain name DNS mx record.

Using Google Apps mail with your domain?
If you have configured your web site mail to go to Google Apps, make sure you have removed the mail accounts from your web panel at your web host. Failure to remove the mail accounts from your web panel at your web host will cause your form mail to go there and be stuck, you will NOT receive this mail at your Google Apps mail account. The reason the mail from the contact form will do this is because the form is part of your web site and it will first try to deliver to the mail address locally rather than using DNS to find your Google Apps mail address. But before you go deleting anything, contact your web host for specific instructions.
