I have just found a cron job placed by hostagtor. It was not there a few months ago and now it is there. I have contacted them and ask them about the issue and why they put it there with out me knowing and why it was not needed before. The chat support said me it was put there by server admins to protect my package. Why?? Is this normal that a hosting company is placing corn jobs without me knowing? This is what I have there, it set to check minute 17, hour 2.

    /usr/local/bin/perl /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/quickinstall/scripts/checkupdates.pl

Can somebody advice if this is normal?

    Thank you very much,
    July

  • I wouldn’t worry about it. Looks like you did the quick install when you started out with WordPress and that’s just your host checking for updates. I suspect it probably auto-applies them.

Is it also normal that they have settled the cron job on minutes 17 and hours 2 ? Is it not too often or something like that? Carnot be that affecting traffic or so if it so often?

    Thank you very much

I think since you install wordpress using quick install thats why hostgator put that corn job. and what I guess that they update it using their main system. So that, the wordpress which is install by quick install that will update automatically. They it because, Quick install software is not up to date by default. like if you install wordpress quick install then you will get old version of wordpress and you need to manually update it from your dashboard.
