• Hi all,

This is my first time here.

I am in the process of launching a blog for https://www.links.com. Links.com is currently parked at NameDrive, but I would like to develop the site, using the primary and subdomains.

I have been busy researching possible hosting sites and noticed that several of the more popular blogs are hosted on MediaTemple. The biggest negative I’ve read about MediaTemple is that it has a cumbersome ticket support process that is slow. Reliabilty and rapid support are the two most important things to me, since I hope to turn links.com into a high revenue paying site. Does anyone have any experience with Mediatemple’s reliability and support?

I am also investigating HostGator, which also provides 24×7 phone support, but I have read more negatives about Hostgator than I have about MediaTemple. Any experiences with Hostgator would also be appreciated. I do not think Dreamhost has phone support, which is why I eliminated it. Correct me if I am mistaken.

Also, I am looking for a good Adsense/advertising oriented template. I am looking at the MW template or the Ads Minded template right now, but would appreciate any comments on what is a good template to use for a revenue producing blog.

Thanks for any assistance that you can provide.

    Rich

  • not sure why you’re asking that here, are you planning on useing wordpress ?

As far as hosting, personally, I can reccommend CI Host (www.cihost.com) I have had a number of dedicated and co-located servers with them for around 6 years, and the 24/7 support is outstanding, plus they run one of the most reliable and speedy networks in the country. If you do choose to sign up there, if you use (hradil.us) as you’re “promo” code they’ll give you some kind of discount, plus they run many specials like 2 dedicated servers for the price of 1, etc.

For templates, whether you’re using wordpress or not, I suggest taking a look at https://www.oswd.org for an xhtml/css valid template to design your site around.

Thanks much for your response. I will check into CI Host.

Yes, I plan on using WordPress. I noticed that some of the more popular blogs were using MediaTemple and Dreamhost which is why I am inquiring. Dreamhost doesn’t seem to have the support I am looking for (e.g., 24×7 phone), but MediaTemple fits the bill as does Hostgator. However, I will definitely look into CI Host.

Thanks for the tip regarding themes. I will check out the oswd.org site.

    Thanks for the helpful advice.
