• My hosting company is telling me they’re seeing a perpetually high amount of usage across 10 cores and are going to need to move to a dedicated solution or fix this problem. I was previously using simple wpsupercache and just switched to expert with the htaccess changes. It’s been less than 24hrs since switching to expert mode but I don’t think it’s working. How can I check that wpsupercache is functioning properly? I’ve checked the bottom of the pages in view source and see the cache notifications. I also ran the test in the settings and see it successful. What else can I do to check that wpsupercache is functioning and lowering my usage? This is across about 12 blogs.

  • Check the Contents page and refresh the stats. Are there files listed there?
Enable debugging and look at the log. Is it caching?

Thank you for your reply. Yes. It says 2924 Cached Pages. The caching seemed to work a couple days after the updates to htaccess for 2 days. Then the usage went up again. I have a feeling that the cache is expiring too fast when the pages are still current. How do I change this?

I’m also seeing long generation times like this… What does it mean?

<!– Dynamic page generated in 17.622 seconds. –>
    <!– Cached page generated by WP-Super-Cache on 2020-10-19 13:40:46 –>

    <!– Compression = gzip –>

It means it took 17 seconds for the page to be generated. There’s something wrong with your WordPress site.

I’d try disabling and enabling plugins one by one until you find the misbehaving piece of code that’s causing this delay. Or change your theme temporarily if you’re using a custom theme.

Most pages generate in 1-3 seconds. There are outliers that take 17 seconds. Is there still a concern? What kind of code or plugin would have an affect on cache time? I have a feeling it could be Disqus…
