• Hey guys ??

The first year of my WordPress.com site on Siteground hosting is ending but I want to put the blog on hold for several months till I’m ready to return to it again. I can’t find an answer to these concerns anywhere:

    1. What happens to WordPress when my hosting ends?
    2. Will my theme, plugins etc. still be there if I stop hosting now but restart it again 3-6 months later? Or will it all be wiped clean?
    3. Do I need to be on the same hosting site for all my themes/plugins to be there months later?

I would really appreciate a response to this soon because my hosting is ending in literally about 3 days. Thank you!!

    Masha

  • From my understanding you have a limited knowledge of this things so i would just recommend that you just renew your hosting and just put your website offline or put an index.html /landing page.

If you were to not renew the hosting, you would need to create a full account backup and download it to your computer and whenever you are ready to resume business restore it.

Absolutely, make a full back up now: files, uploads, database, everything – and save it on your computer.

Most responsible hosts will keep your files intact if you don’t renew the hosting, because people often forget to renew, but I doubt they keep it for that long so don’t risk it.

Personally I’d pay to renew it, if it’s an inexpensive package.

Thank you for responding! What is the best way to backup all of WordPress? I have updraft installed. I hope that would be enough to save all my themes and plugins. I also edited a lot of CSS, but it probably won’t save that right?

And btw so my last question on my first post was if I backed up everything and moved to a new host everything, themes plugins CSS etc, would still work still be there?

See this guide for a few backup methods: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/WordPress_Backups

Using https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/updraftplus/ would probably be the easiest.

As for moving the site, follow https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Moving_WordPress#Moving_to_a_New_Server depending on whether you’re winding up with a new domain or not.
