I’d like to host some themes and plugins on www.ads-software.com. They will be completely free of any charge, all under the GPL license.
I have a blog site which I am planning to further develop. I want to include more useful stuff for new WordPress users, also some articles for a little more advanced users.
I have couple of items for sale on themeforest.net which I sometimes promote on my blog. Is it ok for those items to stay on my blog if I want to host GPL themes and plugins on www.ads-software.com? Does this violate the WordPress license? I am not planning to send links from my free GPL themes to themeforest. Can I include created by links pointing my blog and free stuff there?
In near future I am planning to add more GPL themes and plugins and charge for support like woothemes.com for example.

Does this whole thing break any GPL or WordPress policy?

Ok and if on the pages I use for Theme Url and Author Url I do not promote anything, but I promote themeforest themes on other pages of my site/blog? Is this acceptable ?

Petarg my friend, I think it’s well and truly past the time that you just submit your GPL theme and just see what happens.

It’s not like taking a bank loan, there really is no pre-approval process. ??

As Chip has indicated elsewhere, if there is a problem with a theme you can communicate with the Theme Review Team to get those addressed. And Chip’s already weighed in on this thread.

So my advice is “Take the plunge” and deal with any issues as/if they come up.
