• After having several websites hotlink images from my site I attempted to enable hotlink protection through cpanel. It was pretty hit and miss as I loss access to all parts of my site except the front page.I was able to regain access to other parts of the site after updating the permalinks but now about 99% of the images from my site cannot be viewed from my site.

I really think the issue is with host because I attempted to just put things back in cpanel the way they were but still, my images remain gone.

However, just in case it is not my host, does anyone have any idea what the problem may be?

    Page with missing images

    Thanks ??

  • I’m getting a redirect. The browser shows there is supposed to a clickable image and shows the uri for it but redirects you to home page.

Hi lady…. hope you’ve been doin’ good!

With the hotlink stuff in cPanel, you have to EXPLICITELY allow any particular site to access the images. So your “brownsista” site is going to have to be specifically allowed, EVEN IF IT’S THE SITE YOU’RE WORKING FROM. Dumb….

And sometimes you have to specifically allow subdirectories within a site as well. I don’t know that there’s a better way to solve the problem, but the cPanel hotlink protection does have its “cooties”….

Well I finally disbled hotlink protection and the site works perfectly again.I still have to find some way though to stop people from linking to my images because it is eating up bandwidth like mad.

Thank you for your assistance Samboll ??

Hey V, how are you? Long time no see *waving*

    ??

Try talking to your host support folks, they should be able to explain how to do this without borking the whole thing. Alternatively, they should just be able to give you an .htaccess solution (well, my techies can, hope yours can too! And if they can’t, holler at me, we can talk about what to do about your hosting….)
