I go deeper in your consultation: As I can see your list are made using tables, the function what you like to acchive in your scenario it’s difficult to cover using a plugin or CSS.

In my opinion, it could be interesting rethink this section and change your workflow: create a Custom Post Type, order it in years or surname and use a plugin to create listing grid with the filters you need.
