How Abandoned Cart emails work?

I’m having trouble setting up Abandoned Cart emails for my WooCommerce store. I’ve read all of your related docs and articles, but it’s still not clear enough how this works.
Can you clearly explain what are the minimum requirements for the Abandoned Cart emails to be sent?
I subscribed an email address to a MailPoet list (not the WooCommerce Customers list, which I don’t think it’s possible to do manually anyway) via an Elementor form, added some items to the cart, typed the email address on the Checkout page, and waited 30 minutes to get the email, but I’ve never received it.
Why the email doesn’t get sent? Does the email address have to be subscribed to the WooCommerce Customers list too, and at what point is this happening in the checkout process?
