    If you look at the above image, you can see that [email protected] is sending from my actual hosted domain. Notice how it shows in both the message he (or the bot named “Russ”) sent to me via the WP Forms plugin and the actual dropdown summary when I click on “to me” my actual domain name.

    Is this something I should be concerned about? What are the actual chances of someone having access to my domain to use for spam emails like in this case?

    This question is out of scope for WordPress, but…

    SMTP is not very secure protocol, thats why things like PGP signatures exists,
    or at least DKIM signatures.

    When things are sent via contact forms it is easy to specify any email address,
    and when someone using same domain as your site, it is higher possibility to get around spam filters.

    It is not a thing you can avoid by 100%, just check the content of mail, use spam filters on client side.
