How can I add space between my menu and the image underneath?

I am attempting to build a website in wordpress having created a child theme from the theme delicate. I have recently managed to create a horizontal menu but for some reason it is ‘glued’ to the header image underneath it. I have tried adding paddings and margins in the style sheet and I even tried adding a br in the header.php doc but… the menu remains glued to the image

Any ideas?
