I have 2000 products that will have the same variations (size & material, same price). How can I create it to one product and bulk copy it (image will remain the same of the featured image of each product) to all?

    Thanks

    Hi there,

    Thank you for reaching out!

I understand that you’d like to create 2000 variable products with the same image and variations.

Each product can be copied to a new draft using Copy to a new draft link on the right side of the product edit page in wp-admin, although doing that 2000 times doesn’t sound like fun times.

You could export this product using the default importer/exporter, open the .csv file in Google Sheets, copy both the rows which represent the parent variable product itself as well as the rows which represent the variations, paste them to create a new variable product, adjust the names, SKUs and product IDs in all the rows and re-import.

That will still require quite a lot of manual work, but Google Sheets has various tools and formulas to make such task a bit easier.

    I hope this helps!

    Hello Griga,
No, I have already 2000 simple products… I want to make them variable and add to all of them the same variation.

I have tried using the export of Woocommerce but it is terrible compared to other plugins, you cannot customize the way it exports the file (e.g changing from comma to ?? so when I open the csv file it is a mess. How to fix that?

Thank you for confirming! Adding the same variations to all of your products might not be as easy as we’d like it to be – I’m not aware of a way of doing this, other than via export/import.

It might be possible to find a third-party plugin for this but I will refrain from recommending one since I haven’t tested any such plugins.

In that case, I’d suggest opening the .csv file using a different application. With https://sheets.google.com/ the .csv file is interpreted correctly and the formatting is nice and clean, making it comfortable to edit:

@grigaswp if I export all the products, when I will import it again how to avoid duplicates?

    Hi @der34abe

if I export all the products, when I will import it again how to avoid duplicates?

When importing, there’s an option to only update existing products:

    https://d.pr/i/8qsXuJ

Products are matched using product IDs or SKUs, so as long as you tick this checkbox and your modified file comes with same product IDs and SKUs – no duplicates will be created.

More information can be found here:

    https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/product-csv-importer-exporter/

It also makes sense to test things on a staging site first. If your host doesn’t supply a staging site – you can create one using a plugin such as WP Staging:

    I hope this helps!
