    Hi Folks,
    I wondered if I’d deleted the ‘Portfolio’ page—because I can’t find it in the back-end.

    But!—it seems to exist, and I seem to have previously edited it somehow! See the text: “What’s thsi for?”

    Archive: Portfolio

    So why can’t i fond it, and why is it not in the drop-down list when I try to set the static page for the homepage?

    Thanks all,
    John

    The Portfolio page is dynamically generated by the software, so it doesn’t actually exist as a page that shows up in your dashboard.

    On the Projects: Archived page, What’s thsi for? is either a project type or tag. Go to Portfolio > Portfolio Types, or Portfolio Tags and you will find it there.

    Portfolio Types is very similar to Categories for posts, but for Portfolio Items instead. Portfolio Tags are like tags for posts, but…

    Hi again,
    Thanks for you continuing help with this.

    I suspected it might be built into the system, and beyond my reach. But that text is in it, which is obviously mine.

    I tried to, as you suggested:
    “Go to Portfolio > Portfolio Types, or Portfolio Tags”

    No sign of that text. “What’s thsi for?”

    Unless it’s a description for one of those, or something? I’ll check.

    Hmm. It’s within a div classed:
    “taxonomy-description”

    I’ll revert shortly.

    No, no sign of it. I suppose if I was tech-clever, I could search the database—somehow.

    Here’s the HTML on that ‘portfolio/archive’ page:
    https://johnwhiteillustrator.com/wordpress/portfolio/

    <header class="page-header">
    	<h1 class="page-title">Projects: Archived</h1>
    	<div class="taxonomy-description">What’s thsi for?</div>
    </header><!-- .page-header -->

    But I’m sure you’ve looked at that.

    Here’s the most similar HTML to that, in another portfolio templated page:
    https://johnwhiteillustrator.com/wordpress/fine-art/

    <header class="entry-header">
    	<h1 class="entry-title">Fine Art</h1>
    </header><!-- .entry-header -->

    I’m baffled.

    God, I found it,
    It’s within the ‘Customising Portfolio’ dialog box, under the heading:

    ‘Portfolio Archive Content’

    Sorry for all the messages. Hopefully thsi will help other people who are as clueless as I am!

    Glad you got that sorted out, and you are welcome.

    You’re very kind.
    Actually, I do have just 1 more query on this, if you’ll indulge me …

    How can I make the /portfolio page the default homepage?—if I wanted to do that.

    I haven’t found a way to do it.

    You are welcome. It looks like you have gotten this figured out. Let me know if you still need help with this.

    I don’t think I have actually. The homepage displays my self-created ‘Portfolio All’ Page.

    But I suppose that’s OK. If it used the standard Portfolio as the homepage, thetre’d be dozens of images to load. Probably not a good idea.

    You can adjust the number of portfolio projects to show at Settings > Writing under Your Custom Content Types at the bottom of that page.

    Yep, that worked.
    I suppose I don’t really need the inbuilt /portfolio page to display as home. I’ve more control using a self-made portfolio page anyway.

    Thanks—all resolved.
