Add the sidebars in the order you want them to appear in the widget panel.

well thats all very well Ron but I would have to delete them all and start again to do that wouldn’t I?

I have 40 sidebars each been added over time. And now they need organizing somehow alphabetically. Cannot drag and drop as I’ve mentioned.

I can rename them and keep the origianl ID but they still don’t arrange themselves alphabetically.

I think maybe there is a plugin that would do this or some other way. Drag and drop would be perfect!
Actually as its genesis sidebars maybe I should be asking them ??

Yes, unfortunately, that’s the only way to set the order of them.

I imagine you could edit the sidebar ID via SQL. I’m guessing that the sidebars are currently being sorted by their ID number.

@mortensn – they are stored in a serialized array. Editing it is not advised.

oh dear.. looks like I might be stuck with them in disarray then hmm. we need a side bar sorter plugin making by some clever someone ??

Its strange really because unlimited sidebars are a feature ( I think of genesis???) so perhaps I’ll contact them and ask if they can help.
Im sure I’m not alone in needing this to happen.

Many thanks for your help guys

I’m one of the StudioPress developers so you will get the same explanation from StudioPress.

    Hello,

RE: Genesis Simple Sidebars — Sorting

I know that Nathan Rice and Ron Rennick created this plug-in. My question is does anyone know at StudioPress or on the planet how to sort the sidebar widgets? It seems like that would be a great thing to be able to do — sort them the way you want them to appear without having to delete them all and start over.

Ron’s answer in the support forum here five months ago was not at all encouraging, helpful, or optimistic:

    Hi,
If I use a custom sidebar for each post, would have many bars in a few months (maybe 500 – 1000).
It is possible, or would be detrimental? saturate the database?

Thank you very much for your support!

If you are considering more than 40-50 sidebars then you should consider another way of generating the results you want.
