• Hi. I am making a website with wordpress for a local bus line that’s run by volunteers. I am looking for a free way to add text on the fly remotely (preferably via text messages either with categories or a widget — possibly similar to IFTTT but free). Here is an example of something like what i’m wanting to accomplish.??https://www.qbuzz.nl/gd/reis-plannen/omleidingen-en-verstoringen?. The delays on this link are added with a transponder and database. The organization I’m making the website for doesn’t have a transponder.

Is this even possible with text messages with some kind of plug-in or database? It doesn’t need to be fancy like my example. It can just have the date and the text.

The goal is so the bus drivers can send an sms message about delays that gets posted to the site automatically. The only other way I can think of would be the the bus drivers call me or one of the other appointed admins to update the site. But by that method, by time the driver calls and someone gets around to updating the posts the traditional way on WP, the delay could potentially be over.

The website In the link above is just the domain where I am building the site, which is not yet finished.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Fascinating question. I’m aware of a dozen plugins that allow you to send SMS from WordPress. But the other way around is new. However, I have just found out that there is a plugin for this: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/text-message/ – give it a try. If you have any questions, please contact their support.

@threadi i’m sorry but the biztext plugin is not the desired effect. it lets you send and receive text messages. i wish to post text messages to the website. also it’s not a free plugin. i had already seen that pluugin.

You probably won’t find this free of charge. In order for WordPress to receive SMS, there would have to be a number that transfers the incoming texts to a WordPress API via an SMS gateway. These are technical requirements that actually always cost money, as they involve a lot of hardware and services.

If you were willing to pay for this, you would “only” have to look for such a provider who can pass on such data. Then you would have to find someone who can create an interface in the WordPress API for this. You may be able to find someone like this here: https://jobs.wordpress.net/

Unfortunately, I don’t see any other options.
