• Hello!

Thank you for viewing my question. Is it possible to protect my images and video from being downloaded through Firefox’s ‘show site information’ option?

This allows for each media object to be viewed as files and saved from a dialog window.

I used plugins and applied protection to my uploads folder and yet I can still download them from firefox.

  • Anything that you try to do to make media files non-downloadable is futile and will stop only the most inexperienced user from getting them.

The reason for this is that in order for a file to be displayed to a user it must be downloaded to the users browser. Once that happens anything that you’ve got in place on your server is useless. As an example, I’ve seen someone say that they made their site “bullet-proof” through a wide variety of methods – so I send them a copy of their images that I downloaded to my PC from their “protected” site in about 30 seconds.

There’s only one 100% sure way to ensure that a file cannot be downloaded at all – and that’s to not put it anywhere publicly accessible in the first place.
