I was having a few problems with analytics, so I deleted and reinstalled the Matomo plugin. The new container seems to be working. However, I can still see the old container when I view Page Source for my site. Also, occasionally tags associated with the previous container are still being returned in Tag Manager, even though I can no longer access the old container in Tag Manager or via the plugin.

I noticed the two containers have slightly different paths when they appear in Page Source view. The new one is /wp-content/uploads/matomo/container_example.js

    The old one is /wp-content/plugins/matomo/app/../../../uploads/matomo/container_example.js

Can you suggest how to delete the previous container?

    Thanks in advance.

Hi @aforumuser, how did you reinstall Matomo? Did you allow database data associated with the Matomo plugin (the default behavior) or did you check the setting that retains this data?

Can you try re-configuring the tracker mode in Matomo Analytics > Settings > Tracker? As in, switch to default tracking, save, switch back to tag manager, select the appropriate container and save? Then check if any incorrect tags are being added to the page.

    Hi – thanks for replying.

Re: configuring the tracker mode, when I switch to Default, I can still see the previous container in page source view. Then when I switch the setting back to Tag Manager, both containers show in source view again.

As for installing & allowing the database, I don’t think I changed anything from the defaults (except where it made my data collection privacy compliant). Is there somewhere I can check this setting?

@aforumuser would you be able to share the URL to the website in question? If you don’t want to post it here, you can send an email to dizzy (at) innocraft (dot) com.

Thank you for the help, Dizzy, and for asking me to check my scripts. I had added the script a second time manually in a custom plugin. Very embarrassing for me, but now resolved!
