• As of a few months ago, any links I add to open in a new window automatically have the noopener and noreferrer tags added to them.

This is driving me crazy, as it has become impossible to track my referral traffic, making it incredibly difficult to analyze and plan my business.

I understand the noopener tag is added for security reasons but I don’t get why the noreferrer tag is added, as well.

In any case, while I understand there are ways to override this on my own website, when I post with other bloggers and send them my link, their websites are adding the code, so I cannot see how much traffic they are sending me.

My question is: is there anything I can do to the link I send them, to make sure it retains the ability to track the referral traffic (such as block the noreferrer tag or find another way to track referrals)?

If I’m posting with just one person, I understand I can add UTM codes and track those in my analytics. But if I’m posting with 30 other bloggers, I would have to send each one a different link with the code. And if they, too, want to track referrals, they would have to do the same. This becomes way too cumbersome to be effective.

I’ve seen this conversation come up before, but the focus is always on SEO or security or some other issue, when in fact, the entire purpose of the noreferrer tag is to block referral information, which most bloggers would never want to do. What is the point of having Google Analytics if it cannot track where your traffic is coming from?

If anyone knows a work around, I would be so grateful. Thanks in advance!!

If you want to go back to the way things were, just to to the Advanced tab of your library configuration and check the option called ‘Suppress noreferrer and noopener tags on links’.

Please let me know if this helps and consider donating to support this plugin’s development.
