I have a very brief question. I have no problems with this plugin, it seems to be working perfectly for me – thanks! I back up the database but not the files as I keep a copy of them on my own computer

But backup is so very important and I want to be very sure. So is there some way that I can check that it is all working properly and I actually have the information if I ever need it?

    Thanks.

The best way I could suggest to double check the veracity of the backups is to download a full copy and compare the files against what is actually listed on your site – if all the files are there, then you know those are set.

As for the database, you want to see that the database isn’t being truncated – so compare the size of the database (the one you’ve downloaded and unzipped) to the size reported in the cPanel. If those match, you can have more confidence that the database backup is complete as well.

Beyond that, you can set up a testing site via your local computer or via a subdomain for testing purposes and restore using the backup to see if you are able to replicate your site or not.

    Thanks!

Thanks for those ideas. I feel a little uncertain about how to check the database size (I don’t know anything about cPanel, but I suppose I can use phpMyAdmin to do that). And setting up a test site requires setting up an additional database on my host’s server.

But I can probably manage one of them. Thanks again.
