• newbie here…and i’ve done a search for this with no luck. I’m just wondering how archives work? Can you set posts on your main page to be archived whenever you want? Here’s my page…https://www.stinkpants.com

if i post to this every day this month for example, will i have 31 posts on the main page? Can i make it archive say…half way through the month? Will that take away the posts on my main page? Any advice would be appreciated.

    thanks.

  • Basically every post is “archived” in the moment that published it.

How many posts are shown on your main page – can be set in admin panel > Options > Reading.

By clicking on a month name in your sidebar’s menu ==> will show you all the posts from that given month. (In some themes just an excerpt of them in others the full posts.)

Same thin with the “category archives” – showing all posts in that catgeory.

NOTE. The settings for number of posts shown affects ALL the views in WP, meaning if it’s set at 10, the monthly and category archives will also show 10 posts – with the Next/Previous links at the bottom.

If you want different post numbers in different views, use this plugin:
