• Hi

I am relatively new to WP, but I know to change links from default format to those reflecting the article title, you simply set this up in the settings => permalinks page. That has always worked.
For some reason i do not quite understand, for some particular site, only the “/?page_id=60” format is accepted, except for some 3 or 4 pages.

No saving, re-saving, changing to one format & then back to the post name format or theme helps & if I change to something like /contact-us page, the pages are not found.

What could be causing this & how do I change this?

    I’d appreciate some help.

    Thank you in advance

  • A couple of things you might check..

Make sure that your .htaccess file is writable to WordPress when you update the permalinks. If WordPress cannot write to the file, you will see this message at the bottom of the page:

“If your .htaccess file were writable, we could do this automatically, but it isn’t so these are the mod_rewrite rules you should have in your .htaccess file. Click in the field and press CTRL + a to select all.”

If that isn’t the issue, you should check with your hosts FAQ or support group to confirm that your site is using mod_rewrite, and that it is operating correctly. If that doesn’t resolve the problem, it should at least help with the troubleshooting a bit.
