How do hide or fix Popular and Trending Tabs?
-
Evening,
Just activated the Newsberg theme today. Really love it, but as has been pointed out in at least one other thread on this support forum, the homepage’s ‘Popular’ and ‘Trending’ tabs, which base their calculations on number of comments, won’t work for sites that have comments disabled.
On my site, this manifests as the ‘Trending’ tab just showing the exact same articles as the ‘Latest’ tab, and worse, the ‘Popular’ tab showing the first 4 posts I ever made — about 5 years ago!
I’m surprised to see that hiding these two tabs isn’t a theme option, given that lots of WordPress sites have comments disabled.
Can someone advise how best I might hide these two broken tabs? As mentioned, this was broached in another thread recently, but without a clearly articulated solution.
There was a half-articulated workaround from a theme user: installing a certain plugin that exposes a ‘Number of Views’ statistic, and re-wiring the PHP for the Popular tab to be based upon that stat rather than volume of comments. But the workaround was not described in sufficient detail.
I’d be very grateful if someone (particularly the theme author, if you happen to read this) could advise.
Many Thanks,
D
