How Do I Add a Blog and Calendar to Existing Website?

I did a search before posting. Then after posting, i thought about search for “existing website” and I found a few threads but i’m still a bit lost. Can someone help?

Let’s get back to the basics.
1. Where is your WP installed? In which subdirectory?
2. You cannot display WP on a HTML file.

Here is my wordpress template. But it looks nothing like my current design.

And it will NEVER look like your existing site – unless you make a theme based on your site’s design.

(just for the record and to make sure we speak the same language: that’s not your “template”, that’s your blog. In WP the look is defined by the theme you are using; and a theme is constructed by several template files!)

It is still not clear for me what is it exactly what you want to do.

Please give me some options. If you expect me to speak your language when i really don’t know it, then I’m not going to be able to do it on my own.

I thought i was plain an simple. I would LIKE to do a CMS (maybe in the long run) and if i can be directed in that direction that would be great. But really i would like to learn how to add a blog to the pages i required. I know how to use the Admin pages to set up Categories but I don’t know how to put the POSTS on the webpage. I would also like the calendar feature.

I want to know how to do some of this so i can continue to expand on my knowledge. I don’t want someone else to do it for me. I just need some direction on what to do when.

I don’t want to recreate or destroy the current look of my website. If i can’t just add posts to the current webpages, then i need to develop a theme based on my current website. (I was told however taht i could develop my site and then add WP to it. I was told that the order didn’t make a difference.)

I looked at your main site, it can be developed completely with WP, no problem there. It’s best to NOT work on a live site. But since it doesn’t look like you have updated it recently, this might not be an issue.

I’d create a subdomain called test.wingfling.org

You can take your original design and make it into a theme. Pretty much most of your content can be a static WP Page. The Schedule of Events can use the Event Calendar plugin, there’s a Donate and other PayPal plugins that will help with your donations, and of course your links can be managed with WP’s native bookmarks, in different categories, etc. You can set up your front page to pull in the latest post in addition to the static content currently there. If you want to contact me offlist I can try to help you a bit. Once you start working in WP, creating your content, it will all start to make sense. ??

I don’t know how to put the POSTS on the webpage

Because that’s NOT how WP works. At least, not out of the box.

It doesn’t matter what you were told… NOW you are getting the information from the source ??

WordPress is a CMS. So, you already got that part of your wishlist.
But you do NOT “add a blog to the pages”.
You have a blog installed in that directory where it is (wordpress – for the moment).

All that stuff that you have in your “testing” folder can be done with WP (as a Content Managemenet System, aka CMS) without going through the hassle of putting posts on a webpage…
The only problem is that you have preconceptions about how WP should work for you, instead of learning how it really works.

You have a decent design in that “testing” folder. Turn it into theme. There are tens of tutorials around the net how to make your own theme.

Then just use the WP Pages for your ‘static’ content and learn about the features to have a Page set as your frontpage and another one for your posts (admin . Options Reading).
And I wrote a tutorial how to have a main page containing static content and posts mixed.

That should do it.

Yep, forget WP as a blog for a second. You are right to want to harness its power to drive your web site. Posts can be anything you want and their display can be manipulated any number of ways. That’s the beauty of WordPress.

It shouldn’t take that long to convert your current design to a WP template. I’m in a good mood and because I have lazy, slacking clients, I’m waiting around for them to give me content, direction, information, etc. So .. let me know if you want help with it. Once you get the actual site up and running with WP, it will become glaringly obvious how you should arrange that content using WP. Trust me.

Hi! I am new to wordpress. I am also wanting my blog to appear on my existing htm website at https://www.andreadean.com

Am I understanding correctly that this is NOT possible? But rather I would need to:
1. Recreate the site entirely in wordpress or
2. Put the wordpress files into a sub directory and point to it from teh home page?

What I want to do is be able to paste some code into the place on my home page that say “Andrea’s Blog” and have the wordpress blog appear there.

Advice would be much appreciated.
