    Hello,

I am using the twenty fourteen template and am having trouble adding a blog button the menu bar. My website is printdesignlab.luciahsieh.com. I realized there are other tutorials on doing that but for some reason the twenty fourteen template doesn’t let me adjust “Menus” under “Appearance”?

  • In your admin sidebar: select Pages->add new.
Title you new page “Home” or whatever you want to call it.
    Create another new page.
Title you new page “Blog” or whatever you want to call it.
In the admin sidebar: select Settings->Reading.
In the Reading settings, where it says “Front Page Displays” select “A static page”.
Select your newly created “Home” page for the front page and your newly created “Blog” page for blogs.

    Hi DMBarber,

Thank you for your help! This solved the blog issue.. but now my homepage is different. I actually want my homepage to also feature the blog posts I had before. Is it possible to do that?

If you have already created a homepage, simply use that in the drop down menu for “Home” page.

I want the featured blogs to be on the homepage and the rest of the posts to be displayed on the blog page. I tried to select “blog” for both front page and post option but it doesn’t let me select the same page for 2 options.

I actually don’t want a home page button. Just the blog page button, if you know what I’m talking about? This sounds very confusing but I hope I explained it well enough.

Ok, maybe I understand now… maybe.

    1. If you have not already, reset Settings->Reading back to “your latest posts”
    2. Create a new category, if you have not already, called “Blogs” or “Articles” or whatever you choose. This title will be displayed as the link in the menu you are about to create. If you add a description this will be shown at the top of the target page (not the homepage) when the link is clicked (see below). Add this category to all your posts (you can do this through the quick edit link).
    3. Create a new menu to be displayed in the Top Primary Menu and title it something like category_menu, or whatever you like. Then open the Categories header and drag the category you created for this purpose into the menu structure.
    4. Customize your theme and select your category_menu to be displayed for Top Primary Menu. Save changes.
    5. You should now have a menu link at the top of your page that takes readers to you blog posts (as long as the posts have the targeted category assigned to them and the menu link).

I hope this helps and is understandable.
